APAC Green Iron Workshop

By 2050, half of emissions reductions needed to reach net zero will come from technologies not yet commercialised at scale. Building early demand by 2030 will be critical to their success.

According to research by Accenture, manufacturing green iron has the potential to deliver $96b in revenue by 2040, offering a significant opportunity to secure Australia’s export future while cutting industrial emissions.

Powering Australia’s SA/NT Node Leader for Industrial Decarbonisation, Scott Groom, recently joined the World Economic Forum’s
FirstMoversCoalition and Greenhouse APAC Green Iron Workshop in Adelaide. The forum focused on project bankability, long-term offtake agreements, technology, policy settings and the crucial role of scalable finance in driving industrial decarbonisation.

Australia is emerging as a leader in decarbonising heavy industries such as iron and steel, backed by strong government and industry investment and growing global demand for low-carbon products. The focus now turns to delivery to translate workshop momentum into tangible outcomes.
