12.3M for new shared electric truck charging hub

Transport contributes roughly 22% of Australia’s emissions and poses considerable decarbonisation challenges, particularly the heavy vehicle sector.

In Melbourne’s outer west, a new electric truck charging hub is being developed, supported with $12.3 million in funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).

Developed and operated by Mondo, the facility will provide shared heavy vehicle fast charging for freight operations. Key features include:

  • Location in Laverton North with 14 dual plug electric vehicle chargers, purpose-built for heavy battery electric trucks.
  • Funding to support installation of fit-for-purpose truck charging infrastructure and partly offset the total cost of ownership for 20 heavy battery electric trucks.
  • Partnerships with several truck manufacturers to supply heavy battery electric vehicles, along with technical support, operational trials, and long-haul demonstrations.

As part of Powering Australia’s commitment to advancing zero-emission transport solutions, we welcome initiatives like this that build essential infrastructure and momentum towards cleaner, low-emission transport networks.
