Australian Sustainable Finance Institute Summit

Australian Sustainable Finance Institute Summit

We welcome the release of the Australian Finance Taxonomy a national framework that outlines what qualifies as sustainable and transition-aligned finance. For the first time globally, it incorporates principles of Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) as a baseline for credible investment.

Beyond compliance, this is a signal to markets that First Nations rights and sustainability can play an important role in Australia’s clean energy competitiveness.

Access to finance will likely play a key role in determining whether First Nations communities and businesses are positioned as partners, developers and owners as the clean energy transition progresses. That’s why Powering Australia is championing a finance ecosystem that values and resources First Nations leadership.

At the recent Australian Sustainable Finance Institute (ASFI) Summit, our First Nations Node Leader, Sam Kirby, joined finance, policy, and sustainability leaders to discuss both the opportunities and challenges that exist across clean-tech manufacturing, including investment, technical expertise and a fragmented ecosystem.
