Partnership with Taiwanese battery research giant
This week Australia and Taiwan marked 30 years of cooperation, trade and investment at the annual Joint Energy and Minerals, Trade and Investment Cooperation Consultations (JEMTIC) held in Canberra.
Jointly led by Bruce Warrington and Chien-Hsin Lai, representatives from Government, research and industry from both countries engaged in wide ranging discussions covering energy policy, investment and decarbonisation priorities.
In 2024 Taiwan was Australia’s 12th largest two-way goods and services trading partner with trade worth $30.6 billion, whilst in the same period Taiwan was Australia’s seventh largest goods and services export market worth $20.4 billion.
During the meeting Powering Australia signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) – a leading research and development institution founded in 1973, to cooperate on:
– Battery value chain integration
– Battery materials supply chains
– Technology sharing related to batteries
– Education, training and further research
We acknowledge the support of Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) and Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in the development of this agreement and we look forward to continuing engagement with ITRI to deepen ties for mutual benefit.
Of course, no trip to Canberra would be complete without a visit to Parliament House for a series of positive meetings with representatives for Tim Ayres and Chris Bowen.
